Do you know how to store peeled potatoes? Today, we focus on French fries or better known as chips. A lot of people fall into either the French fry category (the thin and crispy kind) or the chip category (the thick and ‘potatoey’ kind). But we can all agree whether you like thin, thick, crunchy, or crispy fries that chips are just the best.
Ever wondered how well to preserve chips? If yes, then you are in luck because below are some of the best ways for preserving chips. If you follow the steps provided you are surely guaranteed perfect results for the best chips once prepared and ready to serve.
Here is the best way to keep chips fresh
1. Always store in a cool dry location
Store while sealed, this is extremely important, and also store in a sealed container for best storage results.
2. If storing in the bag, remove excess air(Vacuum pack) and make sure there are no rips or tears on the bag that will allow outside air in. Roll tightly to seal.
3. The key to chip storage is to be airtight.
Airtight sealed bags ensures that no oxidation occurs thus no interference with the sensory profile of the chips during preparation and consumption.
4. Don’t add salt. The only time to salt the fries is after the final fry.
5. If you want to add vinegar to the water the potatoes are stored in, that is fine. A tablespoon per 4l of water will help the fries from turning brown.
6. Store the cut, washed fries in the walk-in refrigerator, not outside at room temps. You can also add some ice to the water if you want them to crisp up a little, but no salt.
If you follow the above steps, we guarantee nothing but the best results for the perfect chips. Try it, you will definitely not regret it.
