Wedgehut Foods Limited holds a special place in my heart as it is a thriving product of inconveniences brought about by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
I have always had a passion for business. And after years of being both an employee and entrepreneur, I decided to follow my dreams and create something truly special.
I started with a last-mile and doorstep delivery company that partnered with e-commerce and on-demand delivery apps in Nairobi, including Jumia.
My family also opened a high-end eatery in Nairobi’s upper hill district in 2019,but when COVID-19 hit, the government shut down all businesses, forcing us to distribute our perishable goods to friends and family.
However, the stock of potatoes which was meant for French fries production was in excess. I had to think on my feet and try to make an extra coin. I ended up selling excess potatoes at a car boot sale on the street, which sold faster than expected.
Out of this encounter, an idea was born – WEDGEHUT FOODS LIMITED
I am not only on a mission to Redefine the Potato Value Chain : I am championing the execution of livelihoods Impactation and Food Security
The stars were aligning and from a friend in my network, I bought the factory financed by my savings and a resourceful network of friends. I sprung into action and put in endless hours to see the business thrive.
Wedgehut Foods Limited has since expanded to a more prominent location and signed supply contracts with over 20 clients in both the corporate world, Small Scale Businesses, and domestic consumers. Our delicious, ready-to-cook potato chips, potato wedges, and Lyonnaise have brought in revenues in excess of $500,000 and employed more than 30 workers in less than two years.
Wedgehut Foods Limited offers mouthwatering potato products that are of high quality. My entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to quality have made Wedgehut Foods Limited a true success story.
At the heart of my mission is a commitment to families and their health.
I ensure that the potatoes sourced at Wedgehut Foods Limited are grown in a way that protects our families health and the future of our children.
To achieve this goal, I attend training and facilitate the same for our farmers throughout the country
Ardent in Global food systems, nutrition, and creating new models for sustainable agriculture, Ken brings seven years of B2B Agrifood/FMCG marketing and sales experience in the potato value chain, fruit value chains, and fresh produce to Wedgehut Food Limited.
Ken has worked as a lead consultant for several successful startups and established firms in Kenya’s FMCG and Agro processing industries, supporting them in implementing innovative and sustainable business models.
Exceptionally skilled in product development, brand management, customer relation management, key account management, value addition, and making business sense and strategies in the marketplace, he is Responsible for the development and achievement of Wedgehut Food Limited’s business plan and meeting the expectations of the leadership team.
He autonomously provides organizational leadership in the areas of physical assets, employees, business processes, and financial resources, leveraging internal and external resources to bring insight, expertise, and efficiency into the project executions.
Additionally, Ken provides a work environment that optimizes the profitable growth of the business, the personal growth of employees, and the satisfaction of customers.
The role of quality control is critical to Wedgehut Foods Limited’s performance because it guarantees that our products accomplish their purpose and their standards, satisfying our clients’ criteria in accordance with our potato value-added benchmarks.
In this capacity, Manasses supports Wedgehut Foods Limited in fulfilling our quality standards by selecting, testing, inspecting, measuring, and documenting products at specific stages in the production process, consequently providing the suggestions or actions required to attain the best quality products.
Manasses, who has exhibited hands-on expertise working with standard food science lab instruments and excellent knowledge of sensory techniques, establishes and continuously improves a quality and food safety management system based on Kenya’s ministry of public health and sanitation.
He verifies that farmers follow Agriculture and Food Authority standards and examines and responds to store and consumer product quality complaints or queries.
His exceptional ability to read, evaluate, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical processes, and governmental regulations keeps Wedgehut Foods Limited current on any new regulations and
industry ‘new ins’.
